Most of our trip will pass through the picturesque Troodos mountain range, famous for its magnificent green cedar forests and clean mountain air. There, at the foot of the mountains among vineyards, lies Omodos village, protected by UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
We will walk through its narrow cobbled streets and visit Timios Stavros Monastery. The monastery is famous for containing a piece of the Holy Cross and Rope. We will continue our journey stopping at the winery, where you will have a chance to taste Commandaria and Zivania among other local wines.
Next, we will hold a course to the top of the Troodos Mountains and visit Trooditissa Monastery. The precious relic of the monastery is the miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The monastery also keeps the belt that is put on women dreaming of motherhood. We will have an excellent observation deck along the way.
Then we will drive through the mountain villages of Pedoulas and Prodromos and go to the top of Mount, where we will visit the Tomb of Archbishop Makarios, the first president of Cyprus.
Next, we will find ourselves in the richest and most famous monastery of the island, Kykkos Monastery. One of the miraculous icons of the Virgin Mary, which is said to have been painted by St. Luke during her lifetime, is kept here. After that, you will have a chance to enjoy local food at a restaurant and do some shopping in the square in front of the monastery.
On the way back to Paphos we will visit the Birthplace of Aphrodite – this is one of the most stunning places on the coast of Cyprus, where, and for a good reason, Aphrodite emerged from the sea foam. It is believed that bathing in these waters prolongs youth and beauty – we will have the opportunity to make sure of this ourselves.
